Edinburg updates language of proposed charter amendment on indicted officials

This has never been about my personal issues with the Mayor, although it’s true that we do not see eye-to-eye on many issues. This has always been about what is best for Edinburg residents.

I stand firm in my belief that elected officials should be held to a higher standard of honesty and integrity. It does not benefit Edinburg residents to be dragged through the mud while elected officials sort out their legal troubles. In order to maintain integrity, transparency, and accountability in office, we have to demand more of those in elected positions. This charter, recently amended by the city council, takes the power away from the voter and puts it back into the hands of the very people it was meant to keep accountable. Edinburg deserves better.

Unfortunately, we will never see an end to this level of deceptiveness until enough Edinburg residents rise up and come out to vote. I urge you to please take action and show that there is no room for this type of backdoor governance in our city. Together, we can take Edinburg in a new direction where Edinburg residents ALWAYS come first.
